Hi Luc, thanks for the response! For the 12x calorie rule you use your goal weight not current weight. So if you were 250 pounds and let’s say you wanted to reach 170 then you would eat about 2040 calories for weight loss. Eating 3000 calories would theoretically mean you would maintain a weight of 250 pounds. But it is definitely a rough calculation to help guide you, not a hard and fast rule :) Most people have no idea how many calories they eat on a daily basis and therefore how many to eat to lose weight (hence the reason tracking is so important for beginners).
